The Army of the dead feels like cheating… in the books they were different. its true that they could not be attacked, by they themselves could not attack either. they just filled the hearts of the enemies with dread and doubt.

In fairness there is benefit more then fear and doubt, but in also distraction. You have X number of bodies came at you having targets that are actual beings means you will not be focused on the actual threat. And thats before you had fear and doubt. But it would be much harder to visualize without giving them much more screen time in close POV impacts to the Orcs.

It’s funny because I grew up watching this and was so impressed by Sméagol’s conversations with himself. The transitions and slight change in his voice and facial expression were brilliant. I think I started talking to myself back then too. lol
If you want more context on the Lore then go to the source, the books.

I really appreciate you took the time to watch this, especially considering the length. The Hobbit trilogy is pretty good, just not great. They suffer most of the problems that prequals often have. Great if you’ll watch it, understandable if not.

Just so you know, Hobbit and LotR books are basically fathers of modern fantasy. Even the term “orc” was invented by Tolkien. Plus, movies didn’t covered all that there was in books and changed quite a bit, to keep story and pace coherent xDD
For example, after returning from the war, Sam had 13 children with Roxie, was elected Shire mayor, reneved the soil there and in the end, was allowed to leave Middle Earth like Bilbo and Frodo, cause he had Ring on himself for short period.

Still, Lord of the Rings and Hobbit are just a significant part of Middle Earth lore. They cover last years of 3rd age, but aside from that, there are also Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales, which cover stories from First and Second Ages and even years before that – stories about First Dark Lord, Morgoth, of who Sauron was just a leiutanant, of heroes and monsters, an many incredible things.
If you will not read the books, then I highly recommend to watch some materials on YT after Hobbit movies – there are lot of channels that cover Middle Earth content.
This is a timeless masterpiece and recent attempts to cover some of its story (Rings of Power) were a disgrace to Tolkien legacy.

I think you guys should watch the Hobbit movies (there are Extended versions of those films as well), just go into them knowing they’re *not as good* as The Lord of the Rings. They are the perfect example of what you guys were saying in the last reaction video about how you can like something while also admitting it’s not good (or hate something while acknowledging that it’s well made). I genuinely enjoy the Hobbit films even tho they’re not as well written as The Lord of the Rings.

One of my favorite bts pieces of information is the fact that they couldn’t find enough male extras to be Rohirrim soldiers, so the majority of the riders of Rohan we see in the movie are actually women made up to look like men. They also brought their own horses from their farms and ranches too.
